Lotus Elan and Lotus Elan Plus 2 Forums

Hi there

Does anyone know anyone who can refurb my steel wheels.? I bought the car with black steel wheels with the chrome trim on them.
I'm looking to get it chromed on the outer and black on the inner to do away with the trim like I see on most elan plus 2s
I contacted a chroming wheel firm today who said they used to do it but no longer do this for some reason . So is this normal or am I looking at maybe chrome painting the outer?

A lot of companies no longer do chrome work because of its toxicity and general environmental challenges of the materials involved. The cost has also skyrocketed, at least here in the U.S.

I would think you would gain better results (more durable) at a lower cost with powder coating than with plating. You can get basically the same appearance this way but you're putting on plastic rather than metal.
