Hi guys and girls,

I have two rear intermediate shafts. The threads on both need repairing. I need to buy a new die and new nylocs. Does anyone know what thread types they are? I'm guessing UNF 5/8"? Annoyingly haven't got a way of measuring the pitch. Are all nuts and bolts on an elan UNF or UNC??

Appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Tom.

Apart from all the numerous exceptions like BA threads for instruments and electric, BSP or BSPTF for o?l lines etc most nut and bolt fasteners will be UNF, where the bolt screws into a tapped hole in a cast material the thread may be UNC, an example are the exhaust manifold studs that are UNC where they screw into the head and UNF for the nuts.

If you can run a nut down the thread is likely to be UNF as you arent likely to have any UNC nuts kicking around.

Happy to be corrected to increase my knowledge.

If you are referring to the rear outer drive shaft nut (#1) it is a 5/8 unf half nyloc.
This pic is from the Lotus Fastener list.

Boy, I sure would like to get a copy of the full fastener list. Is that in the public domain?
A quick google look and hit on Lotus Elan Central had a listing but the link is broken, (err 404).
