Hi All

So Im a tad excited as the car is going to see Miles this weekend for him to help me with my clutch and engine issues I have been experiencing. I have hired a car transporter and will be loading the lotus (Plus 2) on the back and driving the hour and a half down to his place.

I have had a look at the video they recommend for securing the car to the bed. I wanted to check with you all that this is a suitable method for securing the car. I recall having read a few posts (although sods law dictates I can't find them now) and I fear its not as easy as it seems.

Gareth, is the Plus 2 running so you can drive it on?

If not, might want to have a bit of a strategy to attach the loading winch cable. Typically the transporter may have some slings and stuff so their large hooks or whatever can be clear of the car. My Spyder frame has a ring on the front of the front crossmember but I am not sure what is an easy attachment with the stock frame. Although the wishbones look handy I would not want them to use them to attach the cable.

The tie down method looks OK to me as it lets the suspension work while keeping the car secure. Hauled my Esprit on a trailer using a similar tie down method with no issues.

Hi Stu,

No the lotus isn't running and so I have a couple of buddies to help me haul it onto the back. I also have a spyder chassis and noted the loop which I was going to affix the strap etc - I have quote a few ratchet straps which I was going to use as a haulage mechanism if the wagon didn't come with a winch (although 95% certain it does).

Thanks for the feedback re the mechanism, I knew there was an issue with some types of tie down methods so I appreciate you clarifying.

Don't forget your Anglo-Saxon dictionary!

..the Spider loop on the cross member is problematic as when you pull it onto the flat bed the cable will pull up onto the front valance due to the angle/tension with a risk of cracking the fibreglass.

I attached it elsewhere when I did this - sorry, can't recall where exactly.
