Re prevous post, those Avons are only "T" rated (118mph) so maybe not such a good idea!

Hi all,
A very basic question. The elan workshop manual recommends tire pressures of 22 in the front and 26 in the rear. This seems really low. Is this the proper inflation pressure for modern tires? I am running michellin 155/r13 on steel wheels. The car is a 1965 elan S2.
Thanks
Robb

Hi Robb
I used to run 155 Michelin XAS on my Elan on the standard 4.5 inch wheels at about 30 front and 32 rear on the road and go up to about 36 front 38 rear on the track.
The original workshop manual recommendations were designed for the lumps of cross ply rubber they called tyres back when the Elan was first made so I would not pay much attention to them now but vary the pressures until you get the ride and grip compromise that you like.

I just put 155 Kumho's on my Sprint to replace my aging Pirelli P3's... and I like them even better! I was really pleasantly surprised. They keep the original look, plus they were only $28 each...
