I noticed on the V5 that I purchased the car on 1st Aug 1986. So for the 30th birthday I thought I'd get some new rubber.
I've shod her in 'affordable ' tyres all along but would like to at least once try out some proper tyres.
I'm down to Michelin XAS FF 165/80 13 vs Avon CR6ZZ 175/70 13.
On a two seater Elan I'm a bit concerned about ever wider tryres but I know for other vehicles that the Avon motorsport rubber is fantastic.
Has anyone tried both? Experience of one or t'other would be welcome.
The car will be a road car which is driven within the legal limits, officer. I would take it on track if I could quieten the exhaust but still quite enjoy it's children frightening qualities.

I've tried to Avons on an type 14 Elite, they are very sticky, I would use a less sticky tyre have no experience of the XAS

I have Michelin XAS tyres on my S3 since August 2012. I had not been able to get H rated tyres of the correct size for years. The Michelins were pricey but they have transformed the steering and handling of the car. I will buy them again when I need new tyres.

Hi James, I wasn't at the Circuit De Ja Vu. Did you see an Elan there?

Regards,

John.
