Hi all,

Does anyone here know what material(s) the stock +2 Alloy Wheels are made of?

I'm getting them (one-by-one) refurbished and the guys ar ehaving a bit of difficulty getting paint and powdercoat to stick.

Thanks in advance,
Peter

Funny Rohan....but not helpful :)

(Never thought I'd be saying that to Rohan!!)

In fairness, One of the other wheels on the car was refurbed by the same guy and has been both airtight (running without a tube) and stays clean for longer than the other ones on the car.

Unfortunately, modern Health and Safety means that he's restricted in the paints and coats he can now use :(

I do like a bit of cheese though........

As far as I am aware they are a conventional LM25 casting aluminium alloy the same as the heads and other aluminium components made for Lotus. They should paint OK with most conventional paint systems the alloy will probably need some sort of etching to clean up the surface in preparation.

cheers

I run Brand Lotus wheels, with Ford centres , not on an Elan! They have GKN cast into them and the date 1970.
After blasting I have always painted alloys with 2K paint and never had trouble with tyres sealing, or paint lifting.
Cheers Lyn....
