Progressive wound springs?

Just curious....does anyone offer progressive wound springs? Is there any reason to use or not to use them? When I was a pup racing motor cycles we wouldn't consider fitting any springs that were not progressive wound or stacked [light spring, washer, heavy spring]. Were we just acting on a fad?

The Elan has this as standard at the rear already with its Aeon rubber springs in addition to the steel spring

Well, I guess you are right Rohan but they wouldn't come into play till there was quite a bit of spring compression whereas the progressive spring works from the beginning.

Anyway, just curious.

Yes your correct they are designed to coe into to play during hard cornering to stiffen up the rear outside wheel. ( It acts like an anti-roll bar ). I find the handling improves with them spaced down around 40mm so they come into play earlier
