Handbrake adjustment (again)

PostPost by: rmorgan12 » Mon Jan 25, 2016 7:51 pm

While trying to adjust my handbrake with new handbrake pads, I came across a problem.
Such that while tring to adjust them I found that one of the pads was touching the disc all the time,
and the other pad was clear. I found that if I pulled the rod from the tree I could pull the pad off the disc,
but as I let go it sprung back on to the disc. If I take the coil expansion spring off, I can adjust the pads as
described in the workshop manual.
Has anyone got any idea why? :?

Have you checked the setting of the limiting tab on the arm that connects to the handbrake rod?

I think I had similar problem that was cause by bad adjustment of that tab, I can't remember the details but I think bad adjustment of it can lead to the inside arm being too close/far from the disc when the brake is released.

Rich,

This topic came up earlier this month, and was referred back to a post 18/7/2012, and went on for 3 pages. If I knew how to give you a link I would, but I am afraid that is beyond me.

It looks like the tab is the culprit.
Will try to adjust at the weekend.
I will report back on my findings.
