wheel spinners

starting to rebuild my plus 2 cant find out which hub and spinner I use. If the passengers side rotate anti clockwise I would have thought that the spinner rotates in that direction to tighten up the wheel. But have been told that its the other way round

You are correct.
Left hand side is anticlockwise, RHS clockwise.
The way I remember it is to knock the spinner at the top towards the front of the car in the direction the car goes.
Well it works for me!

Just remember, when describing Passenger Side depends if its a LHD or RHD.

Thanks yes you are correct but I am really used to using near side and offside which seems is now no used seems to be right and left hand side is common but facing the car / back to the car ???

You can also remember that when you re-install the wheel you put it "back on" - rotate the spinner to the back of the car to tighten.

Very recently bought a +2 which is half way through a restoration started by previous owner and noticed someone has assembled both axles wrongly, ie the spinners will tend to undo as the wheels rotates, worrying! Just as well I'm stripping everything prior to rebuild.

Many hubs have a painted green or red segment (starboard / port) but I suppose if you don't your right from your left or you're colour blind, you're stuffed.
Also, all wheels tighten to the front, but if you don't know your front from your back......

I visited New Zealand 2 years ago and went to at big expo at the Southwards Museum. There were 3 Lotus Elans in the carpark and one of them had fitted the hubs on the wrong side on his +2.

I heard of that happening, Hubs installed wrong. Best to check that the spinner turns in the correct direction when starting the spinner on the hub threads. Don't forget to check both sides. Is the only way to tell if the hubs are installed right, would be by the threads?? Can the hubs even be installed wrong?
