And with a chaser there is absolutely no problem other than perhaps losing your fingers

When I was 16 I mullered the internal thread on the flywheel of my Honda 50 by trying to get it off with a hammer rather than the proper puller, by the time I wised up the puller could no longer go into the internal thread, access was very limited by the end of the crankshaft coming through the middle.

My fathers best engineer ground up a thread chaser, we ran the engine and carefully chased out the thread holding it by hand, the direction of rotation backed it out, this was a very fine thread and it did a perfect job.

I spent an afternoon with a triangular small file ,so 60 degrees - and the nut is on. I couldn't quite get to the point where I could finger tighten it, but there was very little resistance with the nut wrench.
