Quinton Hazell top balljoints of Ebay..

Decided to replace the top balljoints on my Elan with a pair of old new stock QH parts bought off an eBay trader...

I was having problems connecting the two bolts through the wishbones through the balljoint... Checked and it seems the two holes through the top of the casting are not parallel... Lesson learnt, don't buy cheap parts from eBay...even if they are supposed to come from a quality UK manufacturer .. :( . Off to get some new ones from my local friendly Triumph dealer tomorrow (closer than my friendly Lotus dealer)

More likely that they are metric 40mm rather than imperial 1 1/2" (38mm).

Try the bolts from the other side to check.

I had the same problem.

The bolts fit. Tried the balljoint both ways round. The problem is that if I push long bolts through one ball joint they don't line up with the holes in second one suggesting the holes are not parallel... Neither do they line up with the holes on the wishbones..

I meant try putting the bolts in from the wrong side, rather than turning the balljoint around. If the holes are not parallel they will converge if the centres are wrongly spaced they will diverge (or vice versa).

Anyway, as you say they are not right. Make sure you send them back - ebay will require the seller to pay the return postage if they are not correct. so you will get all of your money back.

Unless you have had them sitting on the shelf for over 60 days, I think it is now. The time Paypal will now hear your claim for, up from 45 days.

Unbelieveable really. Seller sells something, 50 days later, buyer breaks it. Raises case with Paypal, to late to raise claim with Ebay, 14 days. Paypal investigates and decides in buyers favours, and refunds. Good innit !!!

PS. Did you know that Paypal is a bank, and has to abide by the banking code and all its rules ? Found that out when someone opened a case against me recently, for something that I had sold to a 'gentleman' in Cypruss. Won that one as well
I think we have drifted ...........off.........here. Sorry Carl

E bay and Pay Pal are tyrants. I have had a buyer claim that an item I sold them was car boot rubbish. He stripped it down, messed the full thing up. e bay gave him a full refund. I had 100% record until that time. The buyer gave 3 other people negative feedback that week. I have never bought or sold on there since.
You do take a chance buying on that site.
