New tyres for DHC and Plus 2

I need to replace tyres on both DHC and Plus 2 - currently on quite old SP10 and SP6 Dunlops respectively.

Would appreciate advice on the best option - fast road use, looking for something that looks in keeping with the cars and running standard wheels.

Thanks

David

It seems for period correct Vredestein Sprint are readily available in the required sizes As well as remade Michelin X a S for about three times the price; and otherwise if you're just looking for tires there's a lot off brand ones out there. Gordon Sauer

I recently bought some Westlake tyres very cheap but so far I am very pleased with them. My son bought some for his VW Bora and he is pleased after 20,000 miles. I think mine cost me just over ?40 for 155/80's nice tread pattern too.

I have Vredestein Sprints

Bought a 6th one off Ebay as a spare spare (!!) and am very happy with them (especially the price). They are also H rated..

hi - i'd go for A539 Yokohama (175 60 13) or if more ambitious the A048, same dimension. i imagine (according to the cars' use) you also added a bit more power! cheers and enjoy sandy

Not has any problems in the rain although I do tend to drive my 'old lady' more gently these days... They are certainly a lot better than my 15 year old Goodyear tires, which although they looked perfect had gone very hard ..

When I bought my S4SE early this year it needed a complete set of new tyres and after much soul searching and added to the fact that I intend to use the car throughout the year I decided to get a set of 'all weather' tyres.

I have a set of winter wheels / tyres for my main car which are Vredesteins and I am very happy with their performance so I went for a set of Vredestien Quatrac 3 165/70 R13 79T M&S.

I appreciate that they are only rated to 118mph and not the 130mph for a H rated tyre but I don't think I will ever be using anywhere need the 118 in normal UK road use!!

They seem to show no wear after about 2k miles and have been great in all weather conditions particularly in the wet. They have been used a couple of times in frosty / icy conditions and seem fine in that as well.

They are available from a number of sources for about ?40 each.

Hope thats of some use

John

Thanks for all of the ideas and lots of good feedback on Vredsteins.

The 'all weather' option is an interesting one as I have a set of standard steel wheels and also minilites so that would give me a nice option for winter use.

My Elan lives in a nice warm garage for most of the winter ... Such a pampered life but saves on tires :D

Cold night, stars out, hood off - can't beat it.

Right on!

I'm happy with a set of Michelin 145/80 in both wet and dry and I believe they do 155s and 165s too. No cash for "original" tyres, most of which weren't around when my car started life so wouldn't be authentic anyway.

Pereiric,
I have the Vredestein 155 X 13 Sprint tires on my S3. They ride nicely but I haven't driven the car enough to judge the handling. Do you know the aspect ratio of these tires? They measure about 22.5 inches diameter. I am thinking they are probably155/80's. Thanks
Chris :) .

.. I seem to remember they were 155/78 so pretty close to the original 155/13 tyres
