Hello All,
Have any of you fitted Gaz shocks and inserts? I've seen them for sale at Motorsportworld and wondered if you have had any dealings with them.
I would gladly fit TTR parts but the price difference is quite big and with a complete restoration in progress, I have to look at all options.
The part numbers are GP5 2129 for the fronts (including springs) & GAI 1063 for the rear.
Not sure whether the inserts come with the tube nut but will ask.
Total including vat for all 4 is ?316.24 which seems good value.

Kev the front shocks on Tony Thompsons suspension are Gaz (valvede to his spec ? ) the rears are Koni it rides very well on the elan. Have Gaz gold pro's on my Tuscan & very pleased with them

Ian, thanks for the reply, you'll laugh at this- I thought ?valvede? was Latin for something and it was my wife who suggested you meant valved my BlackBerry has just done the same thing!
Anyway, do you mean the Tony Thompson's are konis or just on your car's rear?

Kev, I don't find GAZ shocks on the Motorsportworld site. Did you contact them personally?

It's strange but if you put in google - lotus elan +2 shock absorber, they come up and give a list for AVO, GAZ & SPAX - Strange!
I have now found a new site, which, as their prices include vat & delivery, are even cheaper!!

I'm trying to find a front shock that has the spring as well but don't know if they come that way or not?

Hi Kev,

I fitted Gaz shocks to my +2 front and back and have had no problems with them once fitted. The company are not far from me and I contacted them directly which meant i could save on postage , every bit helps. They were more than happy to deal direct with me rather than send me off to one of their dealers.

One of the rear inserts was not right when I got it but they sorted it with no fuss, aparently one of the internal valves was sticking which allowed me to fully extend and close the shock by hand.

What did you do about the front springs and did they fit alright? I'm tempted to get shocks with springs attached but haven't yet looked into whether GAZ do them, maybe someone knows.
I take it you went to motorsport and not Corby? But good to hear your happy with GAZ.

Fitted the springs myself using a rig made up of unistrut, 10mm studding and alot of good fortune!! Not the most relaxing part of the restoration. Some peolple on here have mentioned taking them to a Motorbike garage to get them changed.

I got them direct from their factory in Braintree.

Like Chris, I fitted the existing springs to Gaz front shocks with a make-shift arrangement. There was a thread here a few months ago which I'll consult next time as I can never remember how I did it previously. Be careful!

I fitted them in 2004 and 2007 (to replace broken other-makes) and they have given no trouble though they aren't as well made as others. I don't remember the source and can't find the invoice.

Thanks Meg, it seems to be a bit of a minefield as to the choice of front springs. I've read a lot of posts about the dimensions and number of coils but its left me a bit confused. I know the easiest answer is to fit TTRs but It would be good to have alternatives.

Dose TTR fit different rates of springs or a single offering??

He has a number of "standard" rates he holds in stock but will make springs to whatever rate you want. At least that was my experience when I want a rate he did not normally keep and he made it for me.
