Rear bearing housings

PostPost by: John Larkin » Fri May 31, 2013 10:07 am

Are the cast alloy rear bearing housings and damper strut inserts exactly similar/interchangeable on the types 26/36 (two seater Elan) and type 50 (+2 Elan)? I have a pair of these from a 1968 Elan +2, and would like to keep them as spares if they fit my 1967 Elan S3.

Check the size of the inner bearings. On early Elans the inner and outer bearings were identical but the later cars, and I think all +2s used a larger diameter inner bearing. This might be the difference in the casting numbers of the housings.
