Do these fit the Elan Sprint?

Should I? Or ... Powder coat the originals (which I was going to do and store away for future).. WDYT?

Alex,

Why bother to fit them - I didn't when I fitted the vented discs. :)

Now wait for the comments 8)

Alex,
I found that running without the dust shields is fine in the dry but for road use in heavy rain not so good. The delay in the brakes working was just too much, and that is with cross drilled discs.
But they are not that difficult to remove and refit so try it both ways, you may not mind the delay.
Cheers
John

I took mine off years ago & haven't noticed any difference in brake reaction, wet or dry.

This is on an S2 with no servo, perhaps that's the difference (you get used to pushing pretty hard anyway)

My car has never gone out in the rain in my ownership -- it has come back in the rain on two occasions.....the only occasions the hood was up.
I can't comment on the wet disc performance, and the only concern I had in not fitting the shields was protection against stone chips getting in the calipers.

Alex here are 3 photos of the shields I have.

The galvanised shield is one of a pair I bought this week on Eeebay.

The black powdercoated shield is one of a pair I bought and decided not to use because it didn't fit around the caliper mounting bracket (see 1st picture).

I don't know if the set up is different on your car nor whether they will fit your car.

If you (or anybody else) wants the unused black stainless shields get in touch - they're for sale at ?20.

Hi Steve.

I have sent you a PM..

I think the black stainless items are for the +2. I have a set of those too which I had blasted and powder coated. They came back like a tea bag... Oh well. They were somewhat rusty. I am told a small mod is needed at the area you circled and possibly the diameter reduced slightly both should be easily do - able.

A different shaped caliper mounting bracket.

Which is why it wouldn't fit my bracket which looks like this:
