Hi

Driving my +2 from the garage this morning, heard a pinging noise, found this broken spring on the deck.

Does anyone recognise its (normal) location?

If yours is an early +2, then that looks like your bonnet counterbalance spring (goes between the front bar of the bonnet and the front of the chassis.

They were ditched after chassis 0720.

Many thanks Richard

My +2 is a later 1974 +2s 130, that does sound that it could be a related issue though, will investigate!

Looks like the return spring on the clutch release arm to me...

Mike,
I have an S4 and have been recently been working on the clutch hydraulics. The spring looks a lot like the clutch slave cylinder return spring. It is located between the clutch lever in the bellhousing and the "ear" on the slave cylinder.
Regards,
Colin.

Pull the last coil straight and bend the end into a hook with pliers...

Then put it back where it came from!

While bending a new hook from the broken end of the coil is a good temporary repair I would order in a new one also. The spring may have more than one fatgue crack in it and it may break again soon at the next crack. Cold bending the spring may make it even more likely to fail soon.
