front shock springs

I have a problem with a front spring on my 71 sprint. It is rubbing slightly on the chassis. I have loosened the shock and tried to re-centre it, worked great for a week or so but it's now doing the same again, I only notice it over large bumps and the dreaded sleeping policemen but it sounds awful.
Anyone else had this problem, or better still got a solution to this problem.
Thanks
Dave

I had similar problem, except the spring was rubbing on the inside of the "shield". Nasty creaking noise. Believe it's not uncommon.
Presumably with no "shield" the frame is next in line. Do you have them fitted or open springs?
EDIT: Perhaps I should have called them "shrouds". See thread here: elan-f15/front-dampers-and-springs-t12288.html
