Rear Wheel Bearings

I gave up on the slide hammer as its quite small, I don't think it would have done anything.
....But the good news is the heat and socket trick worked and they are cleanly out!

Thanks for the info. Will pass on some tips (particularly heat and the special tools) next week to my mechanic, as we are just ready to try and re & re the bearings with a press and the hub carriers out of the car. I expect I damaged one outside bearing in my earlier attempt as it only lasted about 10,000 miles to total failure.

One side done! .... and I used a small hammer!
Little taps are the key.

Thanks so much, just have to work myself up to do the other side.

(One little tip for us novices as I very very slightly burred the upper part of the thread on the axle due to the socket moving (when driving it out). Nut still works!
When I do the next one I will wrap in tape and then push the socket on so it doesn't move.
