Club Lotus Track Day Castle Combe 26th May - are you coming?

PostPost by: PaulW » Sun May 20, 2012 11:07 am

How about posting up if you are coming:

2) just to socialise/meet up/put faces to names/nice day out

...and worth the short trip from Cheltenham for me, just to see more than one Elan at the same time, so to speak... :D Rain you say? I'm not sure if I even remember how to put the top up.
Is anyone else reading this planning on coming?

Alan - that does look great - hope it's accurate. The forecasts i've seen still show up to 70% chance of rain. I guess by thursday we should get a consensus.

I know at various other shows there has been an attempt to have a lotuselan.net members get together and I gather that it has not been too successful. At Combe there will be those racing, those watching the racing, those drooling over cars, those chatting with the early car owners, those autojumbling, those rooting thru' the autojumble, those talking to the dealers (assuming they are coming) and those enjoying a pint and a bacon buttie.

With this in mind I'm not sure any sort of meet up would work BUT .... I was thinking how about putting a sticky label on with your name and your elan.net ID on your T-Shirt (or rainjacket). That way more of us can put that face to a name and introduce yourselves if you want to.

Whadyafink?

My cars and I will be on Spyders stand all day unless I am out on track doing test pilot duties.

(if there are enough maybe we can persuade Alan to let us have a section of our own? Traditionally it was always on/around the concrete pad)

Despite, Elan-wise, having been seduced in the 70s, I've not attended one of these gatherings before. Are dotnet Elans parking together, are all Elans parking together, is it 'arrive and see' on the day? I've no particular thoughts on labels, although I'd prefer not to be wearing the only one!

Paul, - if we get the weather there will be maybe a couple of dozen Elans, a lot of Plus 2's, a few Europas, lots of Elise/Exige, Esprits, a few Excels/Eclats plus all the 6's and 7's/historics.

its probably impractical to all park together - few will mind if you park up next to a similar car.

Hopefully you will be surprised at how many cars you'll see.

Only been to the Club Lotus Track Day at Castle Combe once and that was about twenty years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I did manage to park next to a car the same as mine though :D , who would have thought, two MG BGT'S at Castle Combe

Hi all

I'll be there and looking forward to it too. Not in the plus 2 because I haven't been home to sort out the emerald, a mere timing issue I think.

Anyone else thinking of going from the Dorchester area?

For those of you going out on track, this is a good example of how not to drive. ( the driving is quite good in parts, but the attitude towards safety and other track users leaves a lot to be desired)

Well it looks like we are going to have glorious weather - hot and sunny. Hopefully this will encourage a record turnout.

So break out the sun cream and baseball caps for us baldies (or close cropped should I say?). Stock up the cool bag with some tinnies (but no drink driving! - even on track) and get ready to fry eggs on the bonnet.

I plan to be autojumbling - I don't have a huge amount of parts but if there is something specific you want give me a shout (by PM) and I'll have a look and bring it along. If there is anyone out there that needs old style starter motors or dynamos I have a few - well worth collecting in person due to their weight.

I'm coming along with a mate and my Brother in Law to spectate - looks like its going to be a good day out. Hope no one minds if I park my Alfa 156 next to an Elan  ......
Maybe next year I'll have my Plus 2 OTR (mind you 2014 would be a better bet) :D

Well it was a fantastically hot day -some impressive bits of machinery flying around the track. I've not seen so much autojumble at Combe for many a year, let's hope this is the shape of things to come.

Put a couple of faces to names - but as to be expected people are busy with their own agendas and an official meet up would probably have been a no go.

Did meet up with Alan T (Spyderfan) who quite amusingly actually recognised me from my Avatar!! My little lad who created it was chuffed to bits when I got home and told him.

Many nice cars there - should prove a spur to get me to finish mine off (well maybe!). Doubtless someone will be posting photos here or on a new thread later.
