Inverted knockoffs?

I got these 3 eared knock offs with a bunch of other goodies. It appears that someone has taken the time to slice off the ear part. Flip it over. Rethread it back on and mount a Lotus emblem on them. They are really beat up but interesting. Anyone ever seen something like this?

They look like the "Super Safety" variant, that get a mention & picture in this thread:

I think that something other than lead was used on this Knock on...

Maybe the scratches will buff out?

Back in the day some of these spinners made it on to UK cars as well.

I thought this would make a fair topic, others talk about them but I would rather see em. I rounded up some that I had around and got some pictures of all three kinds that I know about. Is anyone else aware of other styles that were used on either Elan or Plus2? Please post photos if you have them.

Safety (first attempt, ears bent inward) 36/6292 in gold, 45/7334 Safety octigon, NOS (without hammer blows or stillson jaw marks)

As bought new in 1966 on an S3 - so some did make it onto UK cars. I was told at the time that they were for foreign markets where people were worried about tearing their nylons.....................

Gary,
I assume that was a tongue in cheek quote?
I have a couple of 'Safetys' like that which were produced from ordinary spinners being whacked with god knows what but inside my monsterous 7" rims which does make life difficult pre Sarto. The PO didn't include a copper mallet so I can only assume he used a club hammer! My gold is rust, though!
Interesting to see a real Safety spinner on a UK car on David's car although I trust he doesn't actually wear nylons!

Hi Roy

Kind of a different but the same. 36/6292 came with those gold painted knock-ons (to match the front and rear bumpers and under the doors). this Coupe also had the JAP magna wheels, 7" in back and 6" in front.

Well, Gary, how odd. I did something similar when I re-chassied my car in '82.
I decided I didn't like it much and scrubbed the paint off the spinners and painted the wheels silver.
One day I may go back to the original black with silver rim and spoke edges.
6s and 7s on mine too.
