Elan rear shock absorbers

PostPost by: elanmac » Tue Dec 13, 2005 7:42 am

I have just removed one of the rear shock absober inserts from my elan and found approx. 1/4 cop of oil or s/a fluid in the bottom of the ali. bearing housing. Can someone please tell me if this is supposed to be there. The insert looks perfectly alright, no leaks that I can see and the action of the rod is smooth both ways. The shock absorbers were fitted in 1995 and have done 6000mls. Any help in this matter would be most appreciated

Yes thats correct to have a small amount of oil in there as it helps with heat dissapation and prevents corrosion, some people use anti freeze instead of oil.
