Elan Handbrakes = LHD and RHD

Last Sunday while looking at the parts book (S1, S2, and Coupe) for some info on the S2 water bottle

post140863.html#p140863

I noticed that the handbrake pulls had different part number.
So when I tripped over 3 handbrake pulls this morning looking for an exhaust bracket to photograph (which I didn't find), I decided to get a couple of the handbrake pulls. I don't know why Ford thought that they needed the ratcheting paws on opposite sides but thats the way they are and it looks like I may need to swap out the RHD version I reinstalled when I converted the Coupe to LHD. A work in progress for way to long.

For what it's worth my S4 RHD looks like the one on the left in your photo but with the T handle rotated through 180 deg. (sorry about the quality of the pic...) All of yours look to me as though they are for use with your left hand......or am I missing something ?

Hi, Thanks for the additional pics.
Sorry I didn't explain myself very well. I can see the difference between your RHD and LHD ones but they are all different from my RHD one. When mounted in the car the ratchet teeth are on mine are on the RHS (same as your RHD one) and the long part of the T handle also points to the RHS so your thumb can operate the release button, yours appears to point to the LHS as do the two LHD ones.

Regards,

I guess things are never simple. I looked at the Cortina parts book and they list two ratchet housings (square tube with serrations) a 113e and 114e number and only one handle pull part number. I took some other pictures of two other Elans, another 65 S2 LHD and a S4 thats converted to LHD. Both are the same as the 2 on the right in the first photo. So I have an odd ball one? I need to look some more at a few others but that won't be today. Maybe someone else will offer up some data to clear this up, or not?

OMG I nearly lost bladder control when I saw a photo of THREE handbrake pulls. The only part missing on my car is the cable abutment from the end of the handrake pull. Is it possible to get pics of that part? I'm pretty much resigned to getting one made.

Plus2 pink bits. Should be labelled NSFW. Thanks so much.

Does the exterior of the part where the cable goes in need to be circular? As you can imagine I'm thinking of making it from a piece of flat 6061 12mm by er yes what's the overall dimension across it. Looks like about 22mm.

The end pokes through the bulkhead and is supported by a grommet - finding a square grommet might be tricky :D

In elanmods the question was asked about where the handbrake came from and I thought Cortina and I have for some time. Today I looked again and stacked an Elan hand brake (top inset picture) on top of a Cortina Mk1 GT (the deluxe is a fly off version in the center). Anyway the Elan IS NOT the same. take a look at the housing end where the cortina cable is.

If not Cortina what is it? Anglia? I don't know...
