So, a question not covered in the archives, does the parking brake tree remain vertical during operation? I am in the process of chassis re-assembly and if the tree is supposed to remain vertical when the handbrake is operated, then some modifications to mine are in order.

Hi Mike;

Mine operates parallel to the slope of the steering column.

Mike,
The hand brake tree should be free to move from side to side.
The angle during operation will change depending on the load differential across the rear axle

OK, so talking with a friend and fellow Elan owner............the tree is designed to move from side to side. His comments were "it is crap anyway, do the best you can on it, make sure things are free to move and that the arms are straight. Move on to more important things..............."
