I agree. My inclination is to have a new rim made identical in construction to the old one, but with slightly thicker dimensions and from the wood of my choice. The original rim would go into storage and could be swapped back in if needed. The original has a delamination of the beechwood layers that I have been unable to fix. If Mike Lempert can fix it, I will have that done as well.

Another thing you can do is wrap the wood rim with bicycle handle bar tape to the desired thickness and then cover with one of those leather covers you can get at any car parts store.

Fred....You've embarressed me!

I have been trawling the autofactors for a nice solution to my rapidly wearing (and already worn) steering leather.

Bicycle handle bar tape is exactly what i have been looking for!

And....I cycle....a lot!!!

Lack of joined up thinking me thinks.... :oops:

Hi

I was in Paul Matty's recently, and they are selling woodrim steering wheels (from memory the same as my 66 S3 original ) for ?390 incl vat.
