Hi,

I've been asked where in the UK to have Koni's overhauled.

Any recommendations, please?

Regards,
Stuart.

Hi Stuart

I've used Shaun Pickering at SP Suspension. He's located at Spaulding in Lincolnshire and can be contacted on 07811 108123.

He did a good job on my shocks

So what did he do Andy? And were they Koni, and front or rear?

Hi There

Yes they were Konis and I took both fron and rears too him.

The rears looked to be in "as new" condition but he checked them out and confirmed they were OK. The fronts he stripped, cleaned and painted the bodies then rebuilt them with new seals, bump stops and bushes for the lower mount and anti roll bar fixing. There was a little bit of corrosion around the tops of the damper rods but as this was under the bump stop and nowere near the running surface, he saw no need for these to be replaced. Total cost was ?100

Andy

Andy, thats really handy to know. Could you post his details in the vendor listings?

Also, do you think it would be possible to machine off the fixed lower spring platform and convert the Koni's into adjustable ride height shocks.

Gerry

Interesting - I'd never considered that I could have shocks rebuilt. Makes a lot of sense, especially with the concerns over certain manufacturer's quality nowadays.

Is it just Konis that can be rebuilt or any shock?

Cheers

Robbie

Hi There

I would have thought that any of the better quality dampers could be rebuilt but I only know about Konis. I biggest problem, as I understand it, is that manufacturers are reluctant to supply spare parts to any one other than their approverd service people so it's not usualy a DIY proposition.

As far as converting dampers to allow ride height adjustment, this is possible as it's been done on the ones I have. Unfortunatly I've no idea when or by whom as mine, which I bought second hand, were already like this.
