Elan S4 tires (USA)

I have spent a lot of time searching but recent feedback is scarce as far as I can see. From the older posts the Michelin XAS FF 155/H/13 seems to be the best but expensive option. Dunlop SP10s would seem to be the reasonably priced alternative. I am looking for a standard size 155/80/13 round shouldered sweet riding tire and the overall grip level is unimportant. (If I want to pull G's I will do it in my CTS-V). Recommendations -recently purchased please?

I'm interested in this thread as well. I need tires and will probably buy some sumitomo 175/70-13's because the fenderes are flared and I know they fit, but I also plan on loosing those flares and would like to find reasonably priced stock sizes at some point. I'm curious as to where you found the Dunlaps. I haven't searched alot but I never found any.

I purchased some 155/80 X13 tires from Discount tire in March of this year. They are called SA 4 and I have no idea who made them, but they have been great tires for over 5,000 miles. Yeah, I'm the idiot who drove to LOG 30 and back.

I was simply looking for a size and didn't care about whether they were performance rated (I have a Mallock Clubmans car that generates plenty of that) but have been pleasantly surprised. They stick pretty well are predictable and disperse water well in rainy conditions.Best of all they are $42.00 each! I chose them over the Kumho Powerstar 758 which I have on my Seven because they look more "right" as to tread pattern and sidewall to me, but the Kumhos aren't bad either.

I would bet these are every bit as good as a Dunlop SP4 was in the day because tire technology has advanced so far over the years. you can find them here:

I fitted Bridgestone B245 165/75/13's to my S4. They look "period", ride well, grip nicely (with gradual slip for those who like to "push" their cars) and are not at all expensive (about AUD $90 each fitted and balanced).

While this thread is for USA tyres (tires?), understand that Bridgestone (or is it Firestone there?) is available in the USA.

I bought Vredstein tires for my S2 Elan at Interstate Tire at 410-666-7333 in Cockeysville, near Baltimore Maryland. Great tires, $75 each in 2008.

Melvin,

The Vredesteins seem to be the best compromise. Did the spare fit in the trunk? (155/13)

I went with the Vredestein Sprint +155/78/13 on my stock S4 rims. Very happy with them & Tires Unlimited.
My tire shop recommended going with the OE spec 155 as the sidewalls remain vertical on the small rim width.

Hi Phil, what is the dia of your Vredestein Sprint? I have been looking for something like 23 inches or better.

Hi Sarto

Rough measure on the tire dia is 23". You can contact Vredestein factory to get exact figures.

Phil,

Did you buy 5 and did the spare fit in the trunk? Reason I ask is that my car is completsly dismantled and the body is at the paint shop so unable to measure...
Thanks

David
