Front wishbones

What is the source of Elan (type 36) front wishbones. Are they simply Triumph Spitfire?

No, they are specific to the Elan.

I'm not aware of anyone manufacturing new parts to the original design, or anyone selling NOS parts.

I would try the likes of Susan Miller for used ones, or alternatively go for new "competition spec" ones (eg SJ Sportscars sell tubular ones).

I'm sure you would find some at Malvern tomorrow.

Unfortunately I am going to Barkston (blasted) Heath for weekend and cannot go to Malvern. But if anyone finds a source there with a phone number/ email, it would be much appreciated. NSF required, both top and bottom.

Both Kelvedon and Mick Miller list standard wishbones.
Kelvedon, lowers at ?52.50 each
Mick Miller, uppers ?36.00 and lowers ?40.00 each, plus VAT

Obviously the sale of a kidney required, for anyone wanting to change a full set!

Costing the job out. The wishbones are a small part of the new chassis and shell. It's what happens when poeple drive through giveway signs in front of you.

Are the side panels to mount the radiator available? The car has/had new ones fitted, so I assume they must be available somewhere.

I don?t know of anyone making new side panels, your best bet is probably to look for a set off a Spitfire and cut them down and spot weld through.

A good looking set just sold on ebay, Item No 250613468931

Ebay USA lists a used set of uppers ($90) and lowers ($90) by the same lister. Search on 190381936438 for one of these sets.

Sorry to Hi Jack this thread but today I was following a people carrier 'baby on board' sticker :shock: :shock: should have known better :roll: :roll: I tried to overtake them but they moved across the road to which I indictaed my displeasure (not too rudely I must say just a wave of hands) and there he and she were effing and jeffing at me to the point where they didn't see the old Bedford pick up pulling on to the road which I couldnt see because of the size of the people carrier blocked the road ahead especially with traffic on the oncoming lane. They slammed on their ABS which left me locked up with nowhere to go except use the kerb. I should have known better and put the knob alarm on.

Anyway the point of all this is I have bent front lower trailing arm of the wishbone and shaved a bit of the nearside wheel. If I use a spyder replacement do I have to replace the upper as well or am I better using the replacement from Sue Miller? I am new to Elans so would appreciate the advice.

Mike, there is a theory that the pressed steel A arms are sacrificial, saving the chassis from damage in the event of a minor crash. This is opposed to the very strong tubular wishbones which would transfer the loads back to the pins on the chassis (non-replaceable for the original Lotus chassis).

You may just have proved this theory.
