Help with front hub assembly

PostPost by: richard sprint » Wed Jul 01, 2009 8:51 pm

Just reassembling my totally disassembled front hub/suspension after refurbishment - would like some clarification please on the positioning of the rubber O ring and also the direction of the felt/metal bearing seal i.e. does the felt face the inner bearing (as I believe)?

I might be confusing myself by the fact that I have 4 O rings but only recall there being 2 i.e. 1 (on eachside) between the caliper bracket and the vertical upright?

Thanks in advance....

Hi Richard,
There is only one O ring per side and if I remember correctly there is a groove to locate it but can't recall if it's in the caliper mounting plate or in the mating face of the upright.

The felt seal is fitted in the hub with the felt facing away from the inner bearing so it rubs on the shoulder of the stub axle. Make sure it's driven fully home into the hub or the hub will seize up when you tighten the hub nut.

This shows the remains of an old felt seal and the metal part below it.
