Steering Column Top Bush

PostPost by: elan_fan » Tue May 31, 2005 2:29 pm

Hey how much play do you all have in your top bushes?(column) it's mot time after a few years off the road I did the top bush a while ago but haven't done many miles and there was a bit of play when it was new. just wondered as the mot guy will have a feel and probably moan like they do. (finding people with any mechanical symathy for older cars is becoming a nightmare)

regards mark

The steering wheel on my S4 has a little bit of play in there and my MOT chap passed it straight away. However I do have a tame MOT tester :D who always enjoys seeing the old cars. In fact he cut his teeth on old sports cars.

I've fitted new bushes before and still ended up with some play, almost as much as before replacement. Never tried it myself but I hear you can fit two bushes (leave the old one in?) and it helps.............anyone tried that?
My M.O.T. test centre doesn't seem too worried about it or they dont check it?
