Torque Setting

PostPost by: jkolb » Mon May 29, 2006 1:17 am

What torque setting should be used for the rear caliper bolts? The workshop manual indicates 40-45 ft.lbs., but this seems high for bolts threaded into an aluminum casting.

Thanx

The thread is in the iron caliper not the aluminium hub casting. I have had no problems with the factory torque setting. I always use antisieze on the bolts nad wire them.

My mistake, Rohan. I am using an aluminum replacement caliper, however. Any torque suggestions?

Which caliper are you using as a replacement? Does it do the handbrake as well?

The caliper is from Lee Chapman Racing. It is not drilled for attachment of the handbrake, but it could be. You can find it at

Provided you have around 5 threads minimum in the aluminium and its a good quality aluminium alloy you should be able to use the same torque setting as for the iron hub. However I would talk to the manufacturer about what they recommend. If you had room for a backup nut behind the alloy casting on the bolt I would probably add that so not relying on the alloy threads.
