Sprint v +2 S130/5 (1973) Front Hub Assemblies

PostPost by: stuartgb100 » Wed May 24, 2006 8:45 pm

Can anyone detail the differences between the front hub assemblies on a late '71 Sprint and a '73 +2 S130/5 ?

I'm being offered a pair of complete +2 hub assemblies from the said +2 and I'm wondering if there's anything (apart from the calipers) that would be an improvement.

Regards.

Depends what you mean by "hub assemblies", I have a sort of feeling that at least some of the later +2s used GT6 uprights which were stronger than Herald/Spitfire ones.

I fitted +2 brakes to my Sprint a couple of years ago; great move.
Be advised that there are 3 types of +2 caliper.

The basic upright and stub axle are the same as used by the later elan (post S2?)

The hubs are apparently different though - more offset. I posted a pic some time ago out of Robinshaw and Ross although someone doubted they showed any diffference.

I've some spare +2 hubs and I think my old original "+0" ones. When I get the chance I'll measure them and settle this for good :)
