Simply said, but time consuming. I recently did mine, took all day of grinding to do both sides.

What did you use to do the grinding, a nail file? It only took me an hour per side with the angle grinder. Lots of sparks 8) A friend of mine is a professional welder so he will be doing the welding bit for me, it will be a lot neater that way.

The original spring platforms are brazed on the shock tube. I just cut a radial slot in the platform to the tube then heated them up until the brazing softened and then peeled them off when I did mine. It took about 5 minutes each.

Hi Christian,
I'll be rebuilding the brakes on my car within the next few weeks to get ready for the next trackday. Try to remember to take some pictures then when the wheels are removed. Folks can also see how I did the droop limit straps to complete Rohan's solution for reducing the body roll on the Chapman struts.

You really should send away for the DBE catalog at http://www.davebean.com/. The amount of supplemental technical information contained in there is enormous and invaluable.

To remove the unwanted portion of the spring platform but leave the bit which was brazed I made about 8 cuts around the piece with a hacksaw leaving about 1/4" of the flared area sticking up. The rest was removed with a 4" disc grinder. The aluminum threaded piece which gets epoxied over the remaining collar had a recessed counterbore pocket which covers up the old portion of the spring perch. Took about an hour apiece to complete the work on each strut being very careful not to mangle it in anyway.
