What else should I tackle if replacing front and rear shocks

Besides taking it as a good time to develop a drinking problem....

My 1969 DHC suspension is largely untouched from being parked in 1992. Tie rod ends are in good shape still.

Hello Tom,

First thing I would do plan to replace all of the bushings in the suspension. It's a big pain to remove and install the bushings. I would have someone with the right tools to do it for you. Frank Monise Motors in Montclair can do it for you. He can buy all the the bushings for you too.
Inspect your upper ball joints and lower trunnions and replace anything loose or suspicious.

Also buy new "Lotocones" and new AEON snubbers for your new shocks. They act as auxiliary springs at full bump and under hard cornering. The Lotocone bushings have short headed bolts that require you to grind a 9/16" socket so there is no chamfer left on the face of the flats.

Replace your rear hub bearings, they are likely worn. Not expensive, they are available through Bean and JAE. Monise has a puller to remove the hub from the stub shaft safely.

After all that and a good alignment, your Elan will drive like new.
There is no cure for Lotus, only treatment.

In addition to the previous post, with the rear struts off you will have the opportunity to replace the rotoflex couplings or consider changing to CV joints.

Have a look at top Diff Mounts and fit Diff Brace if there isn't one

Thanks for the helpful responses. Fortunately I have already had he bearings refreshed and am running CVs (which are great).

Sounds like I should basically be planning a full suspension refresh?

With you running CVs you need a Diff Brace and heavy duty top Diff Mounts

Yes for sure to your last question. This is a great opportunity because you will be doing everything needed to get at the bushings and lotocones anyway.

Thanks for the ongoing discussion and tips.

Any suggestions on parts sourcing, kind of hoping to do this one and have it be done for a LONG time. I know that is a bit of a minefield question, not trying to cause any issues but I've personally experienced some big differences in parts quality already include a DOA master and slave cylinder.

Hope the week if off to a good start for everyone.
