servo issues

Hi all,
Car is stuck as soon as i brake with engine on. So I have diagnosed the fault (i think) through reading posts that the servo is at fault. I have completely replace master cylinder (willwoods) and new servo (ebay). Do you disconnected the vacuum with engine running to fully determine the servo is at fault? something else i should look for.
The air valve unit on the now obvious cheap copy version was broken so i put the old unit air valve back on, i recall spring installed so should not be a problem.
I have taken the old lockheed unit apart but cannot get the air valve out any suggestions, and who is best for a rebuild kit. I believe mine is 6" unit.
Many thanks
