Help! What are these?

Can you help me identify these two tiny parts?

Backstory: was working in the engine bay, removed carburetors and fuel pump, and opened the distributor up.

What did I find on the floor underneath the engine bay, but these two little parts.

If someone can help me identify what they are and where they came from, I would be greatly relieved!

They look like the two plates that fit into the fuel pump to hold the pivot lever in place.

Ouch. That fuel pump did come out. I will check that out right away. What a beast that pump is for access!!! :oops:

Checked the factory workshop manual. The diagram of the fuel pump does show those two tabs. The diagram shows the tabs have an extension out the back, opposite the half-circle groove that engages the pivot shaft. My mystery pieces do not have that extension off the back. But do look pretty close.

Checked my pix from disassembly years back and . . . Brian, you are the winner winner! Thank you so much. You've saved me from a disaster, for sure!

Lotus Fuel Pump, pivot pin retainer.jpeg and

Not looking forward to removing that pump again, but this time will follow factory worshop manual advice on these "retainers" - "pin retainers", as the manual calls them, and pin-punch the body in order to hold the retainers firmly in place.

Will post pix of my work.

Glad I was of help, I recently overhauled a f/pump so recognised the plates :D

Did you pin punch the body to hold those retainers in place, Brian?

To fit Fuel Pump easier if you turn Engine so Fuel Pump Lobe is in lowest position.
Also easier with Starter Motor removed to have access from under.

The plates were quite a firm fit in the pump body so I did not stake the body but you could see where they had been stakes previously, once they are in and the pump fitted they cannot go anywhere. Yours must have been a loose fitting if they dropped out so maybe you should stake the body, here is a pic of a spare pump I have which has never been disassembled.
You can see the staking although you said your plates do not have the “lip” at the end. Maybe the ones without the lip don’t need staking?
