I asked 123 about data logging and they say it on the list of stuff to do but the work on the app is contacted out and the developer busy with other stuff at the minute.

I have a basic aem afr gauge that has serial support, so I can log to the phone via a serial cable.

Looks good, but I couldn't see whether this system is able to plot AFR vs RPM (load)? I currently use a Zeitronix ZT-2 on my Alfa Giulia for AFR logging and will probably install a boss for the lambda sensor in the secondaries on my Elan so I can swap the logger between cars.

However, if you go down this route be aware that most non CD coils produce a very "noisy" rpm signal so will need converting/filtering into a square wave to be of use by most logging software.

It's great being able to use new technology to refine 1960s "technology"! :D

The PE-Wideband is only able to plot AFR or Lambda, but does not have an RPM input.

With Weber carbs what sort of AFR could be considered ok.

So what would be a good Air Fuel Ratio with Webers.
Are we looking for 10.5 to 12.5 ratio

this sounds a bit rich to me, I rather aim at 13.3 at WOT (staying within a 12.7-13.3 window)

Always had Plug colour on the rich side on Twinks but i've never had a O2 sensor to measure it.
I have measured with an old 70's Air fuel Ratio tool with a probe up the Exhaust on my TVR 3000S and it shows 11.3 AFR. Plugs are a light Hazel and the Car runs nice.
If the Engine runs well at 11.3 AFR rich i would think that's better than weak. Weak can cause overheating, Plugs too hot and pre Ignition not to mention holes in Pistons.
This is all new to me with O2 AFR and a Dial Display which shows mixture.
Thanks for any comments to be honest i'm picking your Brains and trying to learn before fitting a O2 AFR kit.

You never get a single afr when using carbs. You can shoot for an average afr but it's really more important to tune to remove afr that's too low or high. Which is very tricky and always a compromise, but why afr logging is very useful.

For sure you need a tickover afr, acceleration afr, cruising afr and wide open throttle afr.
So you can record in a Graph and then change Jets etc to aim at average afrs in each situation.
On Rolling Roads they use a Sensor up the Exhaust but that doesn't give real life conditions.

Alan, this is exactly why the ability to log rpm vs AFR is very helpful to allow you to fine tune each stage of the carb, from idle, through progression to main jets and air correctors. Once you're in the ball park, the logs can then help fine tune emulsion tube selection and accel pump and spill jet sizes, etc.. I aim for around 12.8 to 13:1 under full load. AFR on its own, in the absence of seeing what sort of load the engine was under makes it hard to use the data in my experience, unless you target specific rpm (as per a rolling road) and make a specific note to log the AFR at that interval. In this case, you'll likely need a hill to avoid your road speed increasing even on a constant throttle.

Yup very much so. I have the AFR logging which is useful for seeing general trends but it is hard to interpret what is happening due to lack of other data. So hard to use it to target specific jet changes.

I just wish 123 dizzy app would support logging as it could give the rpm and MAP might be useful for engine load. WOuld probably be enough to get me to buy one. They claim its on the todo list...

I have no idea what you are all talking about!! My Elan goes like a greased weasel. Am I missing something here? Keith Frank has been a huge help without recourse to electronic mumbo jumbo!! :D
