Hopefully someone can answer my question, I've just bought a 66 s2 elan allegedly an se, has been run without an airbox. Luckily it came with original backplate but no fiberglass section, I have just purchased a new one but literally falls inside, it is much smaller than the metal backplate I am pretty sure they are both correct parts can anyone shed some light on this,
Thanks curly

There was multiple airbox setups depending on the carbs, cars, ages etc and your back plate might not even be standard elan part. As said as couple of pictures showing what you had would really help...

Looking at George's airbox it is same as mine, the seals that are being supplied are just a simple thin rubber u section not adequate. I am sure original sadly long since lost was much fatter easily filling the gaps. Looking on Woolies trim & upholstery there is neoprene seals 1/2inch round which I think if you were to cut it part way through along its length it may work.part no254c. I will order some & let you all know if any good

A long time ago i got length of seal from Ray and RDEnterprises - it was basically a neoprene rope that had been slit , maybe 1/2 -9/16 inch in dia . Worked well, was moved along with unit 3777 in the 90's.
I have a length of neoprene seal that is flat sided , 3/16 groove , with a 1/2 circle at the top. If that works out , Ill pass the part number & source along -
Greg , ill toss a length in the mailbox for you if its any good..

Hey guys, just a handy hint to know. The best cold air box gasket is the rocker cover gasket from the early Toyota Corolla engine , works perfectly, it may need a small section/ length removed, but maybe not, but it can be rejoined with best quality super glue. I have had Corolla gasket on my S2 cold air box for nigh on twenty years.

Is this in reference to the "round" early airbox cover or the later "rectangle" airbox cover? And can you be a bit more specific on the years of the approximate years of the Toyota Corolla in question?
