I have changed the mechanical fuel pump on my S3 I recently bought. When reinstalling the original fuel lines between the pump and the carburettors, the lines seemed to be to short, resulting in a sharp bend of the line.
Most likely, I made a mistake when reinstalling the line, but I don't have a clue how to install it. I don't think that this bend does the fuel line any good, so I am looking forward to your advise.

Unfortunately the position of the outlet on some of the new pumps that are available differs from that of the old original glass bowl fuel pump. Looking from the top the original outlet is in the 4 o'clock position and some of the new ones are in the 2 o'clock position.The original fuel lines and some of the new braided replacement lines that are available are just too short to reach and as you have found you are left with a very tight bend in the line. QED and Burtons who supply these replacement pumps may also supply a longer fuel line to match .

after checking the old vs new pump, that is the issue. As an Elan Newbie, my fault. I am used to my Volvo and Merc , where spares just fit....

This might be an exaggeration, but when I find something that just fits, there is much rejoicing in the garage of Hawkins.

The rotated orientation is the configuration for the standard push rod Kent engine in most Anglia, Cortina and Escorts. I found this back in the mid-70s when I changed my 1st one. Simply remove the 6 screws, rotoate the body to the correct twin-cam location and reapply the screws.
