Can anyone tell me the proper length (oem?), end to end, of a LHD weber carb'ed Elan?

Greg,

I do not know what the length is and I do not want to open the packet, but I have a NOS Lotus item that I would part with. PM me if of interest.

You do know that the outer is divided and has a fine length-adjuster at the joint, do you not?

PS: If you break the inner, a coated bicycle brake inner cable makes an excellent replacement.

I do know that, Bill. Thanks. I currently have one on my LHD Weber car now but I've always thought it
to be too long. I bought one from a local vendor and it is 4 inches shorter than the one on my car.
Although it connects on either end just fine, can barely work the pedal when connected. All parts
independently work fine. If this 4 inch shorter cable is the correct length, I'll pursue the binding.
Thanks.

If you use a bicycle inner what do you use for a nipple on the end please? Does it need to be soldered or will one with a screw clamp do ?

I'm interested in Normand's question too. I have a bike cable in-situ (inner and outer for even less striction) and improvised a nipple with a type of electrical crimp. It's not very good as it does not have the correct shape to sit securely in the pedal linkage (cable ties prevent a disaster). However if I could find an adjustable "pear nipple" I would be very happy.

Um, my google history now has some searches with questionable results, google "pear shaped nipple" at your peril/delight! Ah, "pear nipple" gives more appropriate results. :D

I used a standard bicycle screw-fastened nipple, which replaced the two-screw inner from an electrical power strip which I had used before..

I think I use the existing nipple on the bicycle brake cable as the carburettor end and the screw on nipple at the pedal end.

I've just done the bike cable on my car. I did as Bill and just existing small nip at carbs end and then standard screw on nipple on the pedal end.

I did have a quick attempt at making a solder nipple on the end but that was a complete failure. I do plan to revisit this at some point but as it's working it will be a little while before I do. I expect I should be able to find some kind of crimp on nipple that will work ok.

I bought a bike cable from Wilko for ?1.50. Cut it to length and soldered on a new nipple - perfect and looks original.
