Having running issues with my S4 ,what needles and springs are correct for a non-emission CD175-2 with high level balance pipe ,standard engine in good health ,timing and every thing else is correct ,u/k spec car , going to rebuild the carbs and will also replace the temp compensators, cheers Pete.

Book says B1Y needles with natural springs and that's what I'm running (adjustable needles). I've got the low level balance pipe on an SE spec engine but I'm not aware of it making a difference to the carbs. The other possibility is a 2BAR needle, again with a natural spring. What sort of running issues are you having?

Have discovered that the carbs are fitted with Blue/Black springs and B1G adjustable needles !! so I am going to go with Natural Springs and B2AR adjustable needles , and completely strip and rebuild carbs ,they were not originally on this engine, thanks for the info cheers Pete.

Problem solved ! the carbs were a mismatched pair from an emission restricted t/cam , now stripped and rebuilt to u/k spec ,with all extra hole's plugged ,runs like a dream ,just in time for some sunny weather ,
