S4 Weber breather tube pic wanted

Can anyone post a picture of the breather pipe (goes between the head and air box) for a late weber car? The airbox will have a nipple and I believe there's a rubber hose with a wire clamp to hold it to the nipple but how does it go into the hole in the head?
Thanks,
Greg Z

Hi Greg

Took a while to find the only one I have. There are two listed in the March 70 parts book, one for Stromberg and another for the Weber. From memory the Stromberg one has a bend in the middle to go around the carb body. This one is staight so I think its the weber one. It is 5/8 od tube (from the tape measure and my bad eyes at 3:30 am) and looks like its 11 inches long.

I have seen the pipe and hose combo, I may have one some place but I'll not likely going to find it. I was surprised that I found the one in the photo, only had to look in two places for it...

The weber one is shorter than the stromberg one, and I think both have a kink. There's a grommet where it goes into the head. Available from usual suppliers. I bought one but can't recall from where. It's special because the head casting it fits into is thicker than your average flange

eg http://www.sjsportscars.co.uk/index.php?mod=10 See breather tube grommet

Thanks Gary, but that's a Stromberg pipe. I have one of those, as my car is an ex-Stromberg car.

Hi Greg

Oh well , sorry It didn't help. I normally just use an elbow and add the rust preventative to the chassis. Keep you front turrets clean :D

I believe this is a Delloto one so presume it is the same as the Webers. It has the gauze flame trap btw.
QED supply the head grommet and can be seen here:

Yes this is important. I made one without and it spat back when starting one day. What a bang when it ignited the oil vapour in the sump. :? Pushed the filler cap off and a D plug out. I now just vent to atmosphere.
Cheers

My car didn't come with an air-box when purchased by me - only small "pancake" style air-cleaners (see photo) - one of which had an adapter for the breather. I have replaced them with new much deeper K&N filters (and could re-install the ram tubes that didn't fit inside the pancakes). I will post a photo of them when i take it...
The K&N's don't have the necessary fitting for the breather so I have fitted a longish tube with a small filter on the end to vent to atmosphere (might fit a catch tank eventually).

I think what Brian's pic is what I'm looking for. And a rubber hose then connects the pipe to the air box (I think)
Robert, do you have a link? Or a better item number?

Greg,
The hose is listed on the S&J site with a number but it is nothing special, its just a piece of rubber hose which you should be able to get at any motor parts suppliers along with a hose clamp. I do not even use the clamp as the hose stays in place without it.

To reds4: it is not good when the ignition coil has its head down :?

Good pick up PS72 - that is an old photo. When the K&N filters were fitted a few other things were attended to including the coil, which now points up. I must take a new pic and post it.....
