Fuel tank banjo

PostPost by: Robbie693 » Mon Jun 06, 2011 2:58 pm

Hi all, quick question-

What should be sealing the fuel tank outlet banjo connection?

I've removed the bolt and, in my haste to get out of the resulting petrol flood, neglected to notice what the sealing arrangement was. I have a copper washer under the bolt head to banjo side but nothing on the banjo to tank side. Either I've lost the other washer or there wasn't one there in the first place. Should there be two washers and should they be copper or fibre?

Cheers

Correction - I found a fibre washer stuck to the tank but broke it!

Still would like to know what should be there though, it was sealing fine with the lower copper washer but now I've disturbed it I'm wondering if I should add a fiber washer to both sides of the banjo and retain the copper one to bear on it..?

Hi Robbie

The banjo on my tank had a fibre washer on each side of the banjo.
The lotus handbook shows a washer on each side and the lotus parts book refers to a seal 050 L 6004 2 off so whatever it is made of it is the same both sides.

I know some banjos use copper seals. I think that whatever is used I would use the same both sides and fit new ones if the bolts was ever removed.

hope this helps best of luck

Thanks Bob, I'll get some new seals. Any thoughts on leaving the coper washer on there to bear down on the fibre washers? I'ts pretty crushed onto the banjo bolt so I was thinking it may support the fibre one..?

Regards

Hi again Robbie

I am certainly no expert on seals but just feel that whatever type are used use the same each side and use new ones. Paul Matty, Sue Miller, or any of the Lotus specialist should sell them. I would be happy with what they supply

best of luck
