Rusty wrote:Good morning all. I just purchased my second Elan, the first one I owned was in 1967, a 66 FHC. I am installing a new Lotus tank, aluminum, which came with a new sender and no screws. Question: what is the proper thread pitch and screw size? 6-32 seemed to be close, but not quite smooth enough for me. Any help appreciated. The car came with a Fuel Safe fuel cell so sender totally different. Thanks to all.

Lotus doesn't appear to have assigned a part number to the screw, so I expect it is standard.

I always chase and retap all threaded parts before reassembly, and I used a #8-32 tap on the tank.

Of course, mine is a steel tank, and your Al tank may be different.

Thank you all for the help my problem was that the fuel gauge would only show half full when full. The fault was the earth tag on the sender the original solder joint had electrically failed when I pulled on it it came away. Now re-soldered on all OK
