Plastic disk on new stromberg needles?

I just got my new needles and there is a plastic disk at the very base on the needles. I seem to recall a post about these needing to be removed or the car runs lean. Thanks, Dan

Interesting that I just got the needles from Gower & Lee, so clearly some needles still have them. I tried to remove them, but they were on very securely. I ended up leaving them on and the car runs great. What a difference they make. I highly recommend the change to anyone still using the standard B1G needles. The needles I bought are B1BT, which are adjustable, so I needed to get new pistons as well.

That was my thread. I suppose that as long as the disk stay at the base of the needle you are fine. I found mine on the jet (ie fallen off the base of the needle) after a while. That is when they caused problem by blocking much of the jet.

My new B1Ys that arrived from Burlen Fuel Systems about three weeks ago didn't have the delrin discs. I wonder if we're looking at new old stock with them versus new new stock without them (or something like that). I remember reading here that their function was to stop fuel going up into the needle base but I can't imagine why that would be a problem. My guess would be that they are supposed to cap the jet on the overrun and are connected with emissions.

Just an update. I left them on and they seem to be staying in place and working fine. Had a totally separate and very frustrating issue at the autocross on the first run. Something clogged the grouse jet and fuel (electric fuel pump) was pouring out of the rear carb. After much head scratching, went with the highly precise tap with a wrench method and whatever was blocking came loose. I opted not to take any chances and drove home, and have had no issues since.
