Carb Balancing tools. What's the best?

Lets have your votes for best carb balance tools. And yes I use a rubber tube also.But I am getting a bit deaf these days. Industrial you understand.

Anyway..Whats your favourite(s)

This again shows a case for an elan.net tool share system.

I bought one of these a while back for about ?30

They connect nicely to the Dellortos
Once you get them dampened correctly I think they work OK
For the mixture I use two colourtunes ...twice!

Alex,

I use a "Unisyn" for balance and colourtune for mixture, primarily. I check at the end with a good ole piece of rubber tube just to be sure.

I also bought one of those but have yet to use it, where do you connect each of the four tubes.

Hi Guys.
Great tool that Terry but I don't want to drill the manifold for the take off's. Did your car have these already done? or are your carbs so equipped?

Anyone using the stick it on the end of the trumpet type? I fancy something a bit more scientific than the tube method. Its got to be better? Yes? No? ....

I use the synchrometer type:

You can check instantly, it's pretty sensitive, and seems to be less hit-and-miss than the "tube" method if the idle isn't 100% steady.

Provided you have the ports to use it ( Dellortos) , the Morgan Carbtune is the way to go.

If not, the Synchrometer works pretty well, better than the Unisyn. I own all three of them.... :)

Many thanks. I am whittling down the selection. Mike.. I did not know the Dellorto carbs had the required take offs. Just goes to show you are always learning.

I use one of these also. It is very sensitive and works really well.

It was too long to fit on some of the trumpets so I cut up an old radiator hose and made a right angle extension, taped on. Works fine now.

My Dellortos have a small screw that once removed , I can screw in the take off for the gauges.
Too be honest , I think the carbs were renewed in 1989 so they may be a newer version?

Thanks for that Terry. :D I have as I sit here the bible in my hand The one written by Des Hammill. Looking at all the various illustrations I see a possibility I have missed these. I will have a look later as I have to go out (working!) today. Car is up on its lift with bits n bobs (Motorcycle) below. I will lower it down and looksee later.

Must admit I fancy just using the trumpet synchro type. Should be fine. Thinking about ordering one now.

More money!!!! Well spent though. :?

Yes, again, I use this. Although the traditional method works, it is also very hit-and-miss unless the idle is rock-steady, and if there are any other problems (eg slight unneveness due to distributor) it just turns into complete guesswork (for me at least). The colortune just gets you there straight away. You soon get a feel for exactly what colour is lean enough to prevent fouling of the plugs but rich enough to avoid hesitation from idle.

Some people seem to have 4 of them but given the number of times you need to check/adjust I'm not sure it is worth it.

BTW on the synchrometer I also taped on a 90 degree elbow from a 1 1/4" waste pipe (ie bathroom plumbing) and it just fits snugly into the trumpets.
