Carb fuel line

I don't seem to be able to find a purveyor of the aero style pump to carburetor fuel line for the elan. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

I have never liked the original Elan Fuel hose assembly and its replacement cost is excessive in any case. I have seen too many leak when the crimped on end connections come loose as the inner rubber hose ages.

I have always replaced it with conventional rubber hose and hose clamps that can be easily checked. I reuse the end fittings and tee and replace the hose, braid wire cover and crimped end fittings with conventional fuel hose and clamps.

I think that's cheaper than PMS...
The price seems to have DOUBLED in recent years for some reason!

Hey thanks, the QED seems much cheaper. My fuel line (original) is a sort of solid black plastic, seems quite good, never had any trouble. The only thing is, I hear so many warnings about this line, that I worry if I should replace it!

QED are a Lotus Engine Parts Specialist and are a well known and reputable company in the UK.

I have no knowledge about the quality of there fuel lines and would suggest that you e-mail QED ( [email protected] ) and ask them what the fuel line is made from.
Any comments from other forum members?

When I came to pressure test my original line (34 years old) it failed with no pressure, the ?rubber? inner line was perished, but with no visible signs of failure because of the stainless steel braiding.

So you are correct re the warnings and need to ensure modern suitable quality materials are used.

The black nylon line isn't that bad , unless you make sure that the ends are fitted with good rubbers and collars .
I had some problems with that - fuel pump breathing only air and replace the original wire by collars .
For stainless aeroquip , never think they last forever despite their shiny look ... inside the rubber remain the same and there is no sign of wear ... before the flames !

Having seen the result of underbonnet fuel leaks in Elans - pile of ash and surprised bystander - I use aircraft quality lines with the flexible seals. VERY expensive - but then so is the car..............!!
