Hello all
Has anyone got any good tricks for disconnecting the Y-piece from the back pipe. I have disconnected, well ok cut off, the tublar manifold as have a new one on the way. Have removed the U-bolts and have opened the splits on the Y-piece going onto the back pipe using a screwdriver and hammer but it won't budge. Have tried gitting it forward but all that has done is to open the splits more but without moving the Y-piece off the back pipe. Anyone got any good ideas?
Also on the subject of stuck items, I am in the process of refurbishing my Dellorto DHLA 40s and I can not get either the auxiullary or main chokes out of one of the carbs. I have tried the old trick of tapping the auxillary out by tapping against the arm of the venturi, however, the only result is that I have had to order a new auxillary venturi and still have two stuc auxllary venturis but one without an arm. Hence was wondering if anyone has any good ideas? The body is presently soaking in petrol along with all the other internals and am hoping that does the trick, but just in case it doesn't thought I would ask.

In a word no!
What I did was to modify the downpipes by welding on a ring of metal (ie a flange) onto each downpipe then an identically sized flange onto two small "stubs" of exhaust pipe. Using a spare head (but it could be done in situ) I put the small stubs into the "Y" pipe in its correct position positioned the four flanges against each other ie one "stub" against one downpipe etc then clamped them and drilled 3 holes thru both flanges at 120 degrees apart.
To fit- fit manifold downpipes, then bolt the two small "stubs" with the flanges onto the downpipes, fit "Y" piece to stubs then centre pipe. Now even if the two small stubs weld themselves to the "Y" pipe it won't matter. A small "skid" plate around where the flanges meet completes the job. I did mine about 7 years ago because I had the same problem as you. Fixed it though!

But that's not going to help Andy remove his Y piece,If I was you I'd order a new Y piece and get a bigger hammer and heat on the original one...

P.S when you put the new ex pipes and y_piece together silicon sealant is recommended...
