Does anyone know the ohmic value range for AC England fuel gauges?

It reads 30 - 0 ohms at the sender but does not work with the gauge.

There are two types of senders that work with two types of gauges. (Well, in theory, you could reverse the connections to the gauge if it reads backward, but to full scale).

One sender is 0-90 ohms, I think. And I think this GM standard.

The other is something like 270 (or 330) - 30 or so.

Hook your sender to the fuel gauge. Move it through its range and see what happens at the fuel gauge.

If it read full or empty for most of the time and moves backward, either the sender or gauge is the wrong type for the other.

If it only reads part scale ( 0 - part scale or part scale - F), then either the sender or the gauge is faulty. From what you say of the ohmic readings of the sender, the sender is the likely culprit.

If you have an adjustable voltage source, you can check the fuel gauge to see that it moves through its full range.

Some gauges need a voltage stabliser / regulator 5v or 10V whats the gauge off ac gauges will not work with smiths sender units i have rewired them in the past using potentiometer wire you can use a pot to check the range that works the gauge .

It appears my fuel gauge is not working. I wanted to get the range as I am having a new fuel tank made and need to get a matching fuel sender. Some GM gauges did use 30 - 0 ohms. The gauge and sender I have is AC England.

Be sure your fuel gauge is grounded. I was bench-checking my rebuilt gauge and thought it wasn't working - then the guy at Nisonger told me to ground the gauge - that "fixed" it.

All this has opened more questions than it has answered. It would be useful to compile a cross reference list of fuel gauge numbers and their corresponding sender units, (and what they measure) since this question has come up before.
