Hi
I was going to get a Carbtune 4 and I remember some one saying that it's pipes fit to straight to dellortos without having to take the airbox off.
Is it true ?
Where on the carb do the pipes fit?

Thats right, no need to take the air box off.
On each of the four chokes, there is a brass fitting with a flat cut for screwdriver about 20mm distant measured from each choke mixture screw and towards the centre line of each carb. Unscrew it all the way out and replace with a nipple that comes with the carbtune. Then connect each of the four carbtune pipes to each nipple and thats it.
Instant measure of flow on each cylinder simulataneously. Its a great piece of kit.

Just re-read the post and am a little confused, surely the carbtune fits on the engine side of the butterflys to measure the vacuum? So why the reference to the airbox?

Hi John
I was under the impression that the measurement for balancing the vacuum came from the air box side of the butterflys, otherwise adjusting the butterflys would be pointless?
Also my current balancer goes trumpet side.
Though I've never known you to be wrong yet, so I must be wrong, will do some reading up.

I am often wrong (you just go and ask the wife) but I have set the carbs up with a four tube "manometer" last year and it idled a treat till recently, and what it senses is the vacuum in the inlet tracts between the butterflys and valves to make sure the same amount of air/fuel mixture is flowing past the butterflys, suppose you could have some other type of air-flow gauge that fits before the butterflys.......
