If it can break....

Just as I was getting ready for a nice run down to Stoneleigh - ping! Throttle response goes loose & the engine has a worrying tendency to race... Throttle return spring snapped.. So no +2 to Stoneleigh this year
I have a go at removing the bits, and note the throttle lever has a nasty crack in it where it has been prised apart to remove the brass thingy (no idea what it is called) in the past. No matter, I have a spare, collected for this very eventuality... Lo and behold it is different! It has a longer arm, why?! Can anyone explain to me why there are different lengths of throttle arm? Faster/slower throttle response? Which is 'correct'?
I will try and attach pics of the two arms.
